Privacy Policy

FairTales (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a family conflict resolution tool operated by Oscar Mellegers, based in the Netherlands. We can be reached at support@fairtales.ai.

FairTales is intended for use by parents and guardians (“parents”). Parents create accounts and manage all family data. Children participate in sessions under parental supervision but do not hold accounts of their own.

We collect only what is needed to provide the service:

• Account dataYour email address and password, used to create and secure your account.
• Family profileNames, ages, avatar choices, and cultural context (country, language, religion or values) that you enter when setting up your family. This is used to personalise story generation.
• Session logsAnonymised metadata about completed sessions: number of participants, language, country, and a short AI-generated story summary. We do not store the full conflict descriptions after the story has been generated.
• Device dataStandard server logs (IP address, browser type, page visits) retained by our hosting provider, Vercel, for up to 30 days for security and performance purposes.

Voice recordings never leave your device.FairTales uses your browser’s built-in speech recognition (the Web Speech API) to convert speech to text locally. The audio itself is processed by your browser and is not transmitted to FairTales or any third-party server.

Only the resulting text transcription is used — to generate the story. Depending on your browser, the Web Speech API may send audio to the browser vendor’s servers (e.g. Google Chrome’s speech service). This is governed by your browser’s own privacy policy, not ours.

Stories are generated using the Claude API, provided by Anthropic, Inc. When you start a session, the text descriptions of the conflict (as transcribed from voice) are sent to Anthropic’s servers to generate the story. Names and ages of participants are included in this request.

We do not store conflict descriptions on our servers after the story has been returned. Anthropic may retain API inputs for a limited period in accordance with their own privacy policy.

We use the following third-party services to operate FairTales:

• SupabaseAuthentication and database — stores your account and family profile data. Data is hosted in the EU.
• Anthropic (Claude)AI model — processes conflict descriptions to generate personalised stories.
• VercelHosting and content delivery — serves the application and retains standard access logs.

We do not sell your data. We do not use advertising networks or behavioural tracking tools.

FairTales is designed for parents to use with their children. We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children. All accounts are held by parents or guardians, who are responsible for supervising their child’s participation.

Children’s names and ages are stored as part of the family profile, entered by the parent. If you believe a child has provided personal data without parental consent, please contact us at support@fairtales.ai and we will delete it promptly.

Your account and family profile data are stored in Supabase and retained for as long as your account is active. Session history is stored locally in your browser (localStorage) and is not synced to our servers beyond the anonymised metadata described above.

When you delete your account (available under My Account → Delete account), all account data, family profile data, and session metadata are permanently removed from our servers within 30 days.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
• Correction — request that inaccurate data be corrected
• Deletion — request deletion of your data (or use the in-app delete account option)
• Portability — export your data at any time via My Account → Export my data
• Objection — object to processing of your data in certain circumstances

To exercise any of these rights, email support@fairtales.ai. We will respond within 30 days.

FairTales uses browser cookies solely for authentication (to keep you signed in between sessions). We do not use tracking cookies or third-party advertising cookies.

Session history and your family profile are also stored in your browser’s localStorage so the app works offline. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice in the app. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
